WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING about The Hornsby House Inn
“My 70th Birthday Celebration”
The Hornsby House Inn was the perfect place for our family to meet for my birthday. We spent four nights at this incredibly beautiful Inn. The grounds are lovely, and it’s very peaceful and quiet in the area. You are walking distance or a quick trolley ride to the York River, and the Riverwalk shops and restaurants. But you won’t be hungry after the delicious breakfast you will be served every morning. History abounds in Yorktown, and since Dave grew up in the area, he has many wonderful land informative stories to tell. Maureen is the sweetest. My grandchildren fell in love with her. They both made us feel at home, and were very gracious and accommodating. I would recommend Hornsby House to everyone. I hope to go back there again

“Vacation”
The nicest people you will ever meet! That includes Maureen, the housekeeper, Dave and Phil, the owners/breakfast chefs. They will do everything they can to be sure you have a home away from home and guide you on any side trips or destinations while you are here. Breakfast is a “family” event with Dave or Phil relating histories of the house, the Civil War, Yorktown, the Monitor or just telling stories. All the guests we met there in our 3 days were just as nice and eager to help or join in conversations. I’d be more than happy to return a couple of times a year. I can’t imagine having a more pleasant stay anywhere else. Oh, most of the food they serve is organic; it’s just one more plus.

“Wonderful Bed and Breakfast”
We recently stayed three nights at the Hornsby House and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. From the moment we placed our reservations to the time we departed, the experience was overwhelmingly positive. David went out of his way to make sure our stay was positive. The breakfast was wonderful and David’s short stories during breakfast made for a great way to start each day. The house itself is beautiful, full of history and in a great location. Yorktown was an ideal location to venture off to Jamestown, Colonial Williamsburg and other historical sites. We highly recommend the Hornsby House.

“Peaceful, Graceful, Well-Located B&B”
The Hornsby House Inn was built by the current owners’ grandfather and was the house they grew up in and it’s past as a well loved but elegant family home is evident in the antiques, heirlooms and family portraits that furnish every room of the house. We were greeted with cheese and wine on our arrival and given a history of the house and the area by David. We were also advised we could help ourselves to more wine from the kitchen! Breakfasts were delicious and generous and our room was extremely comfortable. The house is ideally located in small and peaceful Yorktown and makes an excellent base for exploring the Colonial Triangle with a more personal touch than the larger hotels in Williamsburg.

“What A Place!”
Phil and Dave are great. This is a fantastic place, with a family history that is remarkable. Phil and Dave are very proud of their home place as they should be. They make you part of the family during your stay. Very informed group of gentlemen. Very accommodating too. We were visiting our son who is in the USCG and he was made part of our visit at the Inn by them. Breakfast consisted of homemade casseroles that are to die for. It was a treat to meet several of the State of Virginia’s “Finest” who wore and are currently wearing a uniform and badge “. Always a treat for my wife and I.

“Simply The Best”
My wife Barbara and I just returned home from a two night stay at The Hornsby House Inn in historic Yorktown, Virginia. I couldn’t help but think to myself that singer Tina Turner must have stayed there too because why else would she sing, “Simply the Best, Better than All the Rest?” The Hornsby House Inn is the most welcoming and inviting Bed and Breakfast that we have ever visited. After you check in and get settled everyone gathers, depending on the weather, outside on the porch or inside by the fireplace to have some wine or beer accompanied with crackers, cheese, and nuts. The spacious rooms are filled with antiques but the best is yet to come. The homemade breakfast is like none you’ve ever had. And if that’s not enough one of the two owners, David or Phillip will sit down with you and give a history lesson of historic Yorktown that would put your high school history teacher to shame. There is no doubt that Tina Turner must have visited the Hornsby House Inn.

“Great Stay With Family”
Five couples spent two nights here while attending services for my Aunt at nearby Grace Church. The hosts were most accommodating and gracious. We felt at home. An Alumnae group was holding a reunion Sunday afternoon and the Inn was more than adequately sized for both this large group and we house guests. In fact, we were invited to attend.

“Yorktown Perfection”
My husband and have stayed at B&B’s all over and feel this one ranks at the top of our list. It’s more than a beautiful house, it’s their families home and those warm memories really resonates to their guests. From the wine and cheese welcome to listening to David speak of the home and town history, we were truly charmed. Jeannette was so kind and made an incredible breakfast using family recipes. The room was clean and the in-room fireplace made for a cozy evening. We had taken an Uber from Williamsburg to Yorktown for 18.00 which took about 10-15 minutes. The home is perfectly located with a walking distance of .25 mile to the battlefield, .50 mile to the new museum, and .25 mile to the waterfront shops. You will need a car if you want to take the extended tour of Yorktown historic sites, which we plan to come back and do. The Hornsby House is also in the process of constructing an event building to the rear of the property which will be perfect for special events. We were truly impressed with this B&B.

“A Must Stay”
My sisters and I stayed here on our visit to the Historic Triangle of Virginia. It is a beautiful old home and our room was perfect for our stay. But the thing that makes this a stand-out is the owner and staff. David greeted us with wine and cheese when we arrived and Jeanette cooked and served us the most amazing breakfasts! We were given restaurant suggestions, maps, DVDs, everything we needed to make our whole visit glorious.

“Beautiful, Quiet, and Wonderful B&B in Yorktown”
My entire family stayed here to celebrate my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary. We loved everything about the Hornsby House Inn. David, Phil, and Jeanette made our stay absolutely perfect. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. The common rooms were wonderful for gathering to chat, read, or watch tv. Each morning we were served a fantastic breakfast in the lovely dining room. We will always remember this trip and the graciousness of our hosts. If you are visiting Williamsburg, Jamestown, or Yorktown, don’t miss the Hornsby House Inn!

“Great Choice”
This B&B is in a great location to explore Yorktown. You can walk and or drive to explore history. Actually, there is a lot of history within the walls of the Hornsby Inn. David, is a wealth of knowledge and we enjoyed listening to his stories during our delicious breakfasts. He was very accommodating and we felt right at home. We will definitely be back on our next trip to Virginia!

“Wonderful Hosts, Wonderful House”
The Innkeepers at Hornsby House are the grandsons of the man who built the place in the 1930s, and there is much fascinating family history on view. It is a welcoming place, and guests are made to feel very much at home. The lower floor has many family antiques, ship models, books, and other items of interest and guests are encouraged to check it all out. Wine, cheese and crackers at 5pm were enjoyed with the innkeeper on duty that day, and they joined us at breakfast as well, sharing the history of the house, the family, and of Yorktown. Breakfasts were really delicious, with several choices of hot and cold items, fresh fruit, good coffee. We stayed on the third floor in the large Hornsby Suite, which had a beautiful king 4-poster bed, a large bathroom, and a view of the Victory Monument across the street. The inn is located in the historic district, so it is very easy to visit the town by walking. Parking is convenient and free, just across the street from the house. Good restaurants in town, and fascinating museums (we enjoyed the Watermen’s Museum) historical houses, and monuments to explore. The York riverfront is lovely, and there are schooner tours available. The Inn is a great base to stay at for several nights and explore the entire region.

Hubby and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary with a getaway to Yorktown, VA and the Hornsby House Inn was the perfect spot! “Oasis of Peace!”
Lovely old house, still in the hands of the original family, Hornsby House lies at the top of Main Street in Colonial Yorktown, right across from the memorial, with views out over the York river. Situated within the Colonial National Historic Park, Yorktown is naturally quiet at night. Easy walking to beach and restaurants. One night is not nearly enough time to enjoy the hospitality offered here!

“Lovely, Comfortable, and Great Location!”
We stayed 2 nights in this lovely B&B. It’s a great home and nicely run. The history was wonderful and the innkeepers (2 brothers who grew up in the home) do a great job of sharing it. It’s a walkable location to historic sites and the heart of the Yorktown waterfront.
TripAdvisor.com – August 2017
“Lovely Inn”
Lovely B&B right on Main Street in the historic old town of Yorktown. It’s a 5 minute walk to the Battlefield Visitors Center, and a 5 minute walk the other direction to the waterfront street with the town’s restaurants and shops. The new American Revolution Museum is 1 mile away. If your goal is to see the historic sites in Yorktown, this is a much better place to stay than chain hotels closer to Williamsburg.
Only two caveats: First, breakfast is served promptly and collectively to all guests at 8:45. That’s pleasant if you’re relaxing, but a bit late if your goal is to sightsee. Second, although the Chesapeake and Yorktown rooms are billed as a two-room suite, they are really separate bedrooms with a separate bathroom between them, all of which open onto the main hall (though with a curtain for privacy). We thought our elementary-school-age son would have a little privacy by having a bedroom off of ours, but it really turned out to be a totally separate bedroom. It worked out for us, but if you have small children a larger room with multiple beds would be better.

“Quiet Elegance”
A 20th century home with 18th century elegance. Located in the heart of Yorktown, it’s in easy walking distance of battlefields, historic homes, the waterfront, museums, and some good restaurants. Dave and Phil, along with Jeanette, are cordial hosts who will go out of their way to make your stay relaxing. From comfortable rooms, to a wonderful and fulfilling breakfast, a stay at Hornsby Hall Inn is worth checking out the next time you’re in Yorktown or its environs.

“Charming Inn. Perfect Spot for a Visit to Yorktown, VA”
With the opening of the new Revolutionary War Museum in Yorktown, the Hornsby House Inn is a go-to lodging for a visit. The host is charming, the breakfasts are scrumptious, and the Inn itself is elegant and beautifully decorated. The view from our bedroom window was of the Victory Monument, and the York River.

“Great Stay in Yorktown”
We just had a great family vacation in Yorktown thanks to the wonderful owners and staff at the Hornsby House Inn. From a last minute cancellation when my son could not join us to very late night arrival thanks to a late plane arrival, the team took exceptional care of us. The stay itself was very enjoyable, with a wonderful breakfast, a chance to chat over evening wine and cheese, and plenty of communal space to just relax with family. The stories about the house and Yorktown were always entertaining and the recommendations for restaurants and sightseeing were always spot on.

“Discover the Truth About Southern Hospitality”
Polite, thoughtful, congenial, generous, and welcoming are the words I would use for the owners and staff of the Hornsby House Inn. My three friends and I had comfortable accommodations with a view of the landmark of Yorktown, It seems that all guests are provided for in all ways great and small and marvelously entertained. I would return in a heartbeat this time with my husband who has long ago sworn off B&Bs. Remarkable southern style breakfasts and afternoon wine and appetizers with other guests will truly win him over!
If you are visiting Williamsburg you might wish to stay here as it will enhance your visit to this part of Virginia immensely!

“First Rate Stay in Yorktown”
My three sons and I stayed at Hornsby House Inn for two nights while visiting Busch Gardens and the Yorktown Battlefield. The Inn exudes quality all around. Our large room was excellent. Bathroom, not large, but suited our needs. Excellent Wi Fi service. Easy to walk from here to nearby Yorktown Battlefield and the Yorktown Riverwalk. I can’t say enough good things about the breakfast. They don’t have a huge selection of breakfast items, but what they do have is high quality and delicious. Jenette fixed chocolate chip pancakes just for my sons, and they thought they were the best pancakes ever. Highly recommended for a nice relaxing stay in the Yorktown area.

“Easing Into Retirement”
Every minute at the Hornsby House was a delight. We were met at the door by David carrying a silver tray with a glass of red wine. His welcoming smile and invitation to join his other guests in the sitting room for drinks, snacks and pleasant conversation set the tone for our stay. We were upgraded to a suite upon arrival and following a short tour of the suite immersed in the hospitality of this wonderful B and B.
The house is a treasure trove of both local and family history. I especially liked the family pictures and memorabilia relating to the family connection to the USS Yorktown and it’s role in the Pacific war. Surrender documents from Japan were something I have never seen before. David is particularly suited to the art of story telling and regaled the guests with many tales.
Advice on where to go for dinner and entertainment were very helpful and the discount at our restaurant that the B and B extends is greatly appreciated. Breakfast was delicious from the already sliced melon and homemade granola mix to the cheesy grits and, eggs and cobbler. The view from our suite looked over the battlefield and the peace monument as well as the lovely grounds. We look forward to spending many more nights in Yorktown and the Hornsby House.

“Great People!”
I had the best time at this place! What a bunch of great hosts. The wine social was so quaint, and the food was hearty. Breakfast…oh! The cheese grits!! Sinful. Wake up and see the majestic Yorktown Monument out your window. If you’re lucky to be there when the Fife and Drum Corps is practicing, you are in for a special treat!

“Location, Hospitality, and Ambiance – All Excellent”
We received a great welcome and briefing from the innkeeper who made us feel like we were home. The gracious brick home was well laid-out for a B&B, providing us with many conveniences. The location near the the Yorktown Victory Monument was just right. The staff was cordial and helpful, providing many useful tips about the area as well as super breakfasts. Our fellow travelers were interesting and well-informed, providing an extra benefit for the stay. We’re going back!

If you wish to stay in a quiet historical town where you can tour battlefields from the Revolutionary War to Civil War, or just have a great meal and a drink, the Hornsby House is the place to stay! Gracious Hosts, Great Food, Wine & Cheese and the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept on. Make sure to ask David about his history lesson and how his Mom got the Army to move a house!

“Just Unique”
We have stayed in a lot of B&B’s all over the world. First one where the owner had breakfast with us and gave us a history lesson. Awesome. Plus the breakfast was outstanding and REALLY good. Quiches, especially the bacon and cheese, delicious. David was great host and all the staff were wanting to serve. Nice to walk around Yorktown as well and enjoy the views.
Thanks is so inadequate
